Abstract

Effective waste management is a major challenge in maintaining environmental cleanliness and public health. One solution that can be implemented is a segregated waste system, namely separating waste based on its type, such as organic, inorganic, and B3 (hazardous and toxic materials). This community service aims to evaluate the understanding and implementation of the segregated waste system in the community, as well as its impact on the volume of waste disposed of at the final disposal site (TPA). This type of service uses a quasi-experimental design with a One Group Pretest-Posttest. Data collection through observation and interviews in several residential areas. The results of the community service activities indicate that the level of public knowledge regarding segregated waste is still low, and implementation in the field is not optimal due to the lack of supporting facilities and socialization. Therefore, it is necessary to improve environmental education and provide waste sorting facilities at the household and community levels. With the implementation of a good segregated waste system, it is hoped that it can reduce the burden on the landfill, increase recycling, and create a clean and healthy environment.
